The Gonstead System

Dr. Clarence S. Gonstead was a chiropractor who founded the Gonstead System of Chiropractic, a specific and scientific method of analyzing and adjusting the spine. Born in Wisconsin in 1898, Dr. Gonstead graduated from the Palmer School of Chiropractic in 1923 and went on to establish a successful chiropractic practice in Mount Horeb, Wisconsin.

The Gonstead System of Chiropractic is based on the principle that the nervous system is the master system of the body, and that proper function of the spine is essential for overall health and well-being. The Gonstead System focuses on identifying and correcting subluxations, or misalignments in the spine, in order to restore proper function to the nervous system and allow the body to heal naturally.

How it works

Read below to find out exactly what happens on your first visit

Step one:
Initial Consultation and History Taking

The process begins with an in-depth consultation. Chiropractors gather information about the patient’s health history, lifestyle, and specific concerns. This step is crucial for understanding the patient’s unique needs.

Step two:
Detailed Examination

After the consultation, a thorough physical examination is conducted. This includes assessing posture, range of motion, and specific tests to evaluate spinal alignment and function.

Step three:
Xray Analysis

One of the distinguishing features of the Gonstead System is the use of full-spine X-rays. These images provide a clear view of the spine's structure, enabling the chiropractor to identify subluxations and plan effective treatment.

Step four:
Adjustment

The Gonstead adjustment technique is highly precise and focuses on specific vertebrae to restore proper alignment. This may involve hands-on adjustments or the use of specialized tools, depending on the patient's needs. The goal is to reduce nerve interference and promote optimal function.

Step five:
Follow-Up and Progress Monitoring

After the initial adjustments, follow-up appointments are scheduled to monitor progress and make any necessary adjustments to the treatment plan. This ongoing assessment ensures that the care remains effective and aligned with the patient's health goals.
